Melanie Stone coordinates the Community Service Learning program at UTHSCSA. She links students and faculty from all the schools of the Health Science Center with community organizations to engage in service learning projects, which provide services to people in the community who would otherwise have little or no access to medical care. These programs extend beyond volunteerism to promote student learning experiences that combine community service with preparation, evaluation, and reflection.

Melanie comes to the Center with a variety of experience in public health, education, and outreach. She has supervised a community clinic outreach program, coordinated research for a large public health study at Baylor College of Medicine, served as a public school teacher, and managed the outreach and education component of University Health System's CareLink program in San Antonio.

Melanie earned Bachelor's degrees in biology and anthropology from Trinity University, a Master's in Public Health from UT Health Science Center Houston, and a Master's in Education from Texas State University.
