Julie K. Brown is a historian whose most recent work has been in the field of the social history of medicine. A native of Rochester New York, she received her M.A. from the University of Rochester. Before moving to San Antonio she received her Ph.D. in history from the University of Queensland (1985) in Australia and is presently an Independent Scholar.
She has published two books and several articles dealing with nineteenth century worlds fairs. During the course of this work and in her current research in the social history of medicine and health she has received several grants and fellowships at institutions including the National Endowment for the Humanities, the J. Paul Getty Museum's Research Institute, and the Smithsonian Institution's National Museum of American History, where she is currently a Research Associate in the Department of Medicine, Science and Society.
She presently holds a National Library of Medicine Publications Grant from the National Institutes of Health. Her current research and publication deals with how the issues of modern health and medicine were framed and represented at international expositions in the United States between 1876 and 1904.
