Robert Brzyski MD, PhD

Since receiving his Bachelor of Arts degree with majors in Biology and Philosophy from the University of Delaware, Dr. Brzyski has proudly identified himself as a "Fighting Blue Hen." He earned his PhD in 1981 and his MD in 1983 from St Louis University in Missouri. He completed residency training in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Yale New Haven Hospital in Connecticut in 1987, followed by a fellowship in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility at the Jones Institute for Reproductive Medicine in Norfolk, Virginia. He joined the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at UT Health Science Center San Antonio(UTHSCSA) in 1993, where he directs the Fellowship Program in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility and heads the Women's Health Initiative Clinical Center on campus. He also heads the Department's Assisted Reproductive Technology(ART) program. He is certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology in Obstetrics and Gynecology and Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility.

Dr. Brzyski's interest in ethics led him to join the University Hospital Ethics Committee, which he now chairs. He is also a member of the Ethics Committee of the American Society for Reproductive Medicine(ASRM). As Chair of the Quality Assurance Committee of the Society for Assisted Reproductive Technology (SART), he reviewed the application of practice guidelines at ART clinics and assisted with member education regarding quality assurance issues. As President of SART, he testified about professional self-regulation in assisted reproduction before the President's Council on Bioethics. Dr. Brzyski has published on the topics of egg donation, embryo disposal and professionalism. His particular interest is in the ethics of new reproductive and genetic technologies and in that regard has become a founding member of the Fertility Preservation Special Interest Group of the ASRM.
