Medical Ethics and Professionalism
The Center teaches didactic courses and electives on ethics principles and practice to first-, second- and fourth-year medical students. Faculty also lead monthly seminars called Ethics Bites, which offer venues for students to discuss current ethical issues. A new series called Research Ethics Roundup takes place quarterly, and focuses on ethical issues relating to research.
Additionally, the Center hosts special events throughout the year that feature scholars and subject experts with topics relating to ethical issues and professionalism. Recent visitors have included Hastings Center President Thomas Murray, PhD, and Partners in Health founder Paul Farmer, MD, PhD.
In conjunction with several of our lectures and workshops, the Center often provides continuing education in ethics free of charge for healthcare providers in our community.
