Personal Statement:
Jason Morrow, MD, PhD, FAAHPM, is Associate Professor Medicine at UT Health SA and Assistant Director for Ethics at the Center for Medical Humanities & Ethics, where he holds the Howard and Betty Halff Professorship for Medical Humanities & Ethics. Dr. Morrow is a Palliative Care and Clinical Ethics specialist who has earned prestigious national awards for his educational and clinical leadership and who has a passion for transforming the culture in which medicine is taught and practiced. He was the founding Medical Director for Inpatient Palliative Care Consultation at University Health System, whose program won the 2019 Circle of Life Award from the American Hospital Association for innovation and excellence in Palliative Care. Dr. Morrow helps to lead Ethics education for the Long School of Medicine where he was recognized as Most Compassionate Faculty in 2019. He is widely enlisted on campus and around the country to teach on professionalism, empathic communication, end-of-life care, and ethical aspects of medical decision-making. He is Co-Director for the new Health Equity Track for the Internal Medicine Residency Program.
Education
He received his undergraduate degrees with honors from Trinity University in San Antonio, and his medical degree from the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, where he also received his Ph.D. in Medical Humanities. Dr. Morrow completed his residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville. He then joined the faculty at Duke University as an Assistant Professor of Medicine and as an academic hospitalist at Durham Regional Hospital and Duke University Medical Center.
