Literature and Art
The Center’s program in Literature and Art engages literature, music, and visual and performing arts to explore concepts and skills used in the art of medical practice. Students gain practical knowledge in visual observation, communication, active listening, interdisciplinary practice and imagining the patient’s experience.
Center faculty mentor students who produce the Health Science Center’s only art and literature journal, Connective Tissue. Courses include an elective for medical students called Medicine Through Literature, and an elective for nursing and medical students called Art Rounds. Each year, a Center-mentored student group use visual and performing arts to support the student run free clinics in an event called Night of the Arts.
