Event Details:
Health is determined by more than personal choices or behaviors. An array of factors produces health outcomes: physical environment, genetic predisposition, social conditions, economic policies social relationships, health system factors and more. In the U.S. and worldwide, these factors are inextricably linked to a lengthy history of unjust treatment and inequality for people of color and other vulnerable communities, worsening their health outcomes. This alone creates an ethical obligation for medical professionals to join others in working to eliminate injustices plaguing our society. Beyond that, Dr. Cooper makes a compelling case that everyone’s health is interconnected, both within communities and worldwide. She calls for solidarity across race and social class to help create a healthier world for all.
