Literature & Art
The Center for Medical Humanities & Ethics hosts special events throughout the year that feature prominent authors, artists and performers from across the country. Recent visitors have included pianist/psychiatrist Richard Kogan, authors Tracy Kidder, Pauline Chen and Ethan Canin, and poet William S. Merwin. A key focus is on interprofessional learning, as well as on narrative medicine and using literature and art to imagine the patient's experience.
Center faculty and staff also mentor students who produce Connective Tissue, the Health Science Center's only student-run art and literature journal, and offer two electives called Medicine through Literature and Art Rounds.
