Challenges We had some difficulties in the beginning with acquiring the vaccines for the vaccine drive. The community partner that had been used by Frontera leaders in the past did not have vaccines available to donate and wasn’t sure when they would have some to give us. Furthermore, purchasing the vaccines was not an option because of the price.
Lessons Learned Through our difficulty with getting the vaccines we learned the importance of early planning. While we started looking for the vaccines two months before the date that we initially were planning to host the event it would have been beneficial to start looking even earlier, as we ended up having to move the event back because we could not get the vaccines in time. Starting earlier than you need to allows you to have a cushion in case things don’t go as planned, which they inevitably won’t.
Success Story Although we had trouble initially procuring vaccines for our flu drive in the end we were able to get some donated by University Hospital and formed a partnership with them.
