Engaging in global health is not easy for medical students for two important reasons: time and cost. While there is little that can be done about the lack of time, UT Health San Antonio and the CMHE have made great efforts to reduce the individual burden of paying for global health experiences. We are fortunate that our medical students have access to the Undergraduate Medical School Dean’s Travel Scholarship.

The Dean’s Travel Scholarship is made available by the Office of Student Affairs within Undergraduate Medical Education. This scholarship is available to eligible student (MSI-MSIV) who are residents of the State of Texas and enrolled in an elective course that prepares students for working in an overseas environment. For a list of electives that are offered by the CMHE and are approved by the Office of Student Affairs, please visit our Global Health Electives.

For students who are not Texas residents, please schedule an appointment with the Assistant Director for Global Health to discuss options.
